Here is the article I wrote for the Society of American Period Furniture Makers 2009 yearly journal. Their web site is www.sapfm.org. They are a great organization that focuses on everything to do with period furniture. If you become a member you can have access to quite a few very detailed furniture plans on their web site, and there are groups all through the US that get together every couple of months and share skills and knowledge. I have taught several carving workshops at these meetings. I am not sure of the membership now, but somewhere around 1,100 and 1,200 members. You can check their web site and look at their forum. There are some amazingly talented people who know every aspect of period furniture making – carving, building, inlay, finishing.
