I just put on my woodcarving school website a 2 hour long video on carving the Convex Newport Shell. This is the same video as the DVD with some slight variations in editing. It is broken down into 6 chapters:
Chapter 1: Carving down the area under the shell
Chapter 2: Shaping the shell
Chapter 3: Carving the v-cuts that divide the concave and convex sections
Chapter 4: Carving the convex sections
Chapter 5: Carving the concave sections
Chapter 6: Carving the center fan design
I am off to Cincinnati for the Woodworking in America Show tomorrow – flying hopefully. If the airlines are back to normal after Hurricane Sandy, then I should get there sometime tomorrow. It is only a 9 hour drive, so if necessary I will jump in the car.
When I am not doing the demos for the show, I will be at the SAPFM (Society of American Period Furniture Makers) booth doing some carving demos. I’m scheduled to be there Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 and then Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 5:00 and probably will be hanging out there at various other times with a bunch of crazy woodworkers (crazy in a nice way).
Hope to meet some of you there!
