Last weekend while I was in Manchester, CT teaching a beginning class at the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking. While I was there, I also did a demo/talk for the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM) on Saturday evening. About 25 people were there.
The talk was filmed with a camera that sort of had a mind of it’s own, so please excuse the background noise and you may have to hang on tight as the camera sort of scoots around on its own. Both Part 1 and Part 2 are up on youtube.
In the first part, I talked about the different techniques of using templates and transferring acanthus leaf designs to the knee of a cabriole leg. I basically discussed the pros and cons of using particular material to make templates, and how to transfer the design. I also go over how to draw an acanthus leaf.
Part 2 shows how to carve the acanthus leaf on the knee.
