Instructional DVDs for Sale
I have made 5 instructional woodcarving DVDs. Each DVD has a matching plaster casting that you can purchase with it. The purpose for the plaster casting is so you can have something 3-dimensional to have next to you while you are carving.
The DVDs include:
How to Carve the Ball and Claw Foot
How to Carve the Acanthus Leaf on a Cabriole Leg
How to Carve the Concave Newport Shell
How to Carve the Convex Newport Shell
How to Carve a Fruit Basket – Samuel McIntyre Style
For the moment, please go to my web site – www.marymaycarving.com to purchase these.
Mary May – Woodcarver

Dear Mary
I am trying to develop carving skills & enjoyed your woodwright demo on PBS.
I recently purchased a book & DVD by David Sabol. Good examples of carving,
sharpening & finishing.
Which of your books or DVD’s do you recomend for Beginners?
Also do you have plans to visit the Tulsa Okla area,
yours truly Cliff Givens
Cliff, I am working on getting a “woodcarving basics” DVD made, but I would say that the most basic DVD that I have is “How to Carve the Acanthus Leaf”. It covers a lot of issues such as working with the grain, the necessity of using your right and left hand, making a slicing motion with the tools, and the basic relief carving process of lowering down the background and defining the edge of your design. You can use this process in pretty much any relief carving that you do. Not sure about when I will be in Tulsa, but if you can get a group of people (6 or 8) who want to ship me there to learn carving, let me know. Good luck with the carving!
Mary, I am a moderately experienced woodworker. I have a good bit of hand tool experience. I really want to begin doing stuff like your Celtic Knot Corner and borders on table aprons and box lids. Do you have material to help me learn how to do that?
Eventually I will have several videos on carving molding and Celtic knots for my online video school. Please be patient. I should have my site up early July.
