About the Teacher

Angela M. Walker is a third generation hand restoration weaver with over 30 years experience. She is the owner of Aristocrat Antiques Cane Restoration in Charleston SC. She specializes in all types of cane, rattan, rush and fabric weaving restoration. Angela also holds degrees in archeology, fine arts, and fashion design, from Stephens College, MO., and post-graduate work from Parsons in New York City.   Some of her restoration work can be found in Middleton Plantation, as well as many private collections in the Low Country. About the Class
Each student will have their own foot stool to work on and take home as a completed project.

This class will cover:

- various materials used in caning
- history and origins of caning
- the 7 steps necessary to form the cane pattern
- discussion of the options for staining or coloring cane

NOTE: If you have your own chair that you would like to re-cane, you may work on that. Please contact Angela prior to class to discuss the condition of the chair, and whether this will be appropriate for this class.

Materials included
- Caning kit with stool
- Booklet on caning and assembly
- Hank of Cane
- Professional Caning awl
- Tapered pegs
- Ice Pick
- Glycerin

Materials that you will need to bring:
- Sponge
- Two hand size clean rags
- Nail clippers, or small scissors to snip the end of the cane
- Twist ties or clothing pin clips, to hold a few strands of cane under water
- A bucket to soak the cane in
