About the Teacher
David Beckford has 30 years of experience in every aspect of building and restoring antique furniture. He specializes in the restoration of Charleston and American Colonial furniture pieces. Some of his work can be seen at MESDA in Winston-Salem, the Charleston Museum , Historic Charleston Foundation, Middleton Place Foundation, and Kaminski House in Georgetown , SC. Private collectors include Kaufman Collection (Norfolk, VA), Rivers Collection, and Cynthia & Priestly Coker Collection in Charleston, SC.

About the class
In this class, you will learn the basics of traditional joinery and how to hand cut dovetail joints. We will go over the process of:

- How to sharpen chisels
- How to lay out dovetails
- How to cut dovetails accurately 

Materials that will be provided during class
- wood mallet
- wood
- coping saw
- sharpening stones

Materials you will need to bring

- Well sharpened ½” dovetail chisel or paring chisel (not mortise chisel)
