I have meant to put photos up of students that I have had come to my shop to learn woodcarving.
Several weeks ago, Andy Boro travelled from Aikin, SC to learn how to carve an acanthus leaf. He is wanting to carve a cabriole leg with a classic acanthus leaf decoration on the knee. This practice leaf turned out really well, and I’m confident when he carves this on the actual leg it will turn out beautiful.
Catherine DuPree is currently working on carving a 3-dimensional bunny rabbit. This is her first attempt at carving, and is doing a wonderful job. I don’t have the opportunity to teach much 3-dimentional carving, and it has been a lot of fun. Normally, I am doing pieces for furniture which is usally relief carving. I’d like to get more into the sculptural pieces myself – in my spare time!
