I have just spent a wonderful weekend teaching 10 people from the Central Florida Woodworkers Guild in Orlando, Florida. It really was a fun class. Everyone in the class has known each other for quite a while, so it was like being a party-crasher at a family reunion. Lots of laughter, fun, food and even got some carving done! I have to say this is probably going to be one of the more memorable teaching experiences – it was never a dull moment. Thanks to everyone in the class for a great experience. I look forward to the next time!
I took the Amtrak down from Charleston to Orlando on Friday – it left at 5:00 am. That was the first time I took the Amtrak and was quite impressed. I would really like to try taking one of the sleeper cars and tour around a little – it is just a much more slower paced and relaxing way of travelling.
Maybe when I am independently wealthy… waiting for that wealthy patron who can put me in the lifestyle I am (or want to be) accustomed to… I digress…
I would like to take a class on carving. I am working on an antique chair and I cannot use power tools, there are just to many odd shapes. Can you tell me when the next class is, and how much it would be.
Thanks so much,
John
John, it depends on where you live. I’ve got the 2012 classes listed on my web site – http://www.marymaycarving.com. Over the past year or so when I try to set up classes in my workshop in Charleston, SC, I only had 1 or 2 people responding, so I have changed my policy of teaching locally. If you want to come to Charleston and have a one-on-one class, I generally charge $200 to $250/day, depending on how focused the carving is. You can come for 1 day or a week – it is up to you, as long as my schedule works out. Let me know if you want to visit Charleston, and I’d be happy to set something up for you.
