Well, the “East Coast Tour” has ended. I have arrived home safely and I am tired! It’s been a really great trip – met amazing people, taught lots of carving, learned lots of things (I always learn a lot when I teach) and ate some incredible meals along the way. Everyone who hosted took great care of me and I had opportunities to see areas of the country that I have never seen before. I don’t think I have ever been to Connecticut, and I think I may have driven through Maryland when I was a teenager on some vague trip with my family heading to somewhere…
What I would really like to do is go on this same trip and have more time to see the area and maybe go to some of the local museums. I have not had many opportunities to go see these amazing period pieces of furniture, and this is the area of the country where there are some incredible opportunities for this. One day – maybe when I am retired!
Here is a photo of the class at The Woodworker’s Club in Rockville, MD. We had so much fun, and they really did great with the carving – as you can see. They carved a very realistic donut (as you can see in the photo), a beautiful acanthus leaf in basswood, and a scalloped shell in mahogany.
