I spent today at the American College of the Building Arts with Lie-Nielsen Tools and Blue Spruce Toolworks.
Today was just a warm-up, but tomorrow is really the big day where the college will be hosting their Masters of the Building Arts Festival. We (Lie-Nielsen, Blue Spruce and I) will be up on the 2nd floor of the building (an amazing old restored jail) and will be doing demonstrations all day long. Outside of the school there will be demos by students and professionals in wrought iron, plastering, stone carving, timber framing, and carpentry.
There will also be a variety of speakers throughout the day on various topics that relate to traditional building arts. I will be doing a slideshow and demo on the Amazing Acanthus Leaf in architecture and furniture (can’t get enough of that leaf!) at 3:00.
If you have an opportunity to come by, please join us. It’s fascinating to see what the students are learning in the traditional building arts – and it’s great to see the masters who are out there in the field doing their part to secure a future for these traditional arts. It’s great to be a part of all this.
