If you don’t already have a subscription, pick up the latest issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine. I’ve got an article on carving the Linenfold Panels that are often seen in door and wall panels in English manor homes and cathedrals. There are some great articles this month – including one by George Walker on techniques of achieving good proportion in furniture design; Robert Lang has an article on making the Voysey Mantel Clock; Mario Rodriguez talks about how to shape a chair seat; Zachary Dillinger shows the process of making a beautiful William and Mary Spice Chest; and last, (but definitely not least) Jameel Abraham shows some amazing double-bevel marquetry techniques.
There are so many skills and techniques and arts I would love to learn in this lifetime. I am almost afraid to venture into other areas of woodworking because I can see myself getting as deeply involved in ALL of them as I did in carving! Then where will I be? So… for now, I will stay with carving, and occasionally peer over the fence and say “ooooh – I want to do THAT!” and then get back to my work…
