This is an introduction to "Carving a Live Oak Applique."
This lesson teaches how to carve a simple applique of a majestic live oak tree. It was carved to be the focal point of a fireplace header, but the possibilities for applique installments are always endless. This isn't my typical, precision lesson with sharp lines and smooth surfaces. In fact, it's a perfect example of just how much life can be given to certain carvings by leaving and even accentuating different kinds of tool marks.
