12 c. Romanesque Ornament

This has been kicking my butt for the last 3 weeks. I used African Mahagony, which like Mary said in a different thread, the grain goes every way but the right way. Grounding has been the real pain...tons of stabbing and slicing cuts through tight curves. It's tested my patience for sure!

Sadly, I broke the tip off a small number 3 gouge in the process...this thing better finish up perfectly!

That's looking beautiful, Matthew! You must have some microscopic tools to get into some of those corners. Keep up the good work, and try not to use those gouges as pry bars 🙂

Thank you Mary...and yes, I do tend to wedge my smallest gouge, #3, 3mm, into those microscopic places often. Which is probably why it's about 1/8th inch shorter now. ?

I really do need to find some super small gouges, but haven't read any good reviews on brands/locations. Not sure where to look.

Matthew, look through the earlier posts on this forum. There was a discussion about micro tools. I will try to find it.

Thanks Mary...I found it over in the carving tools forum. Off to google I go.
