I made the box. First i have ever made. I then carved the lid and front in this byzantine design. I think the wood for the box is mahagony. It carved beautifully. The wood for the lid i used different for the contrast. I finish my carvings with linseed oil and beeswax. Simple yet effective. I need to place clasps in front and beeswax it.

Very nice. I think the symmetry of the carving on the front also contrasts with the asymmetry of the carving on the top, which adds interest. - BillP
