Praying Hands

Just about done. The wood is bass wood. I'm thinking I'll just finish it with brown shoe polish. Should I seal the wood first?

That's really beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I certainly would consider sealing the wood with some kind of finish first (I tend to use 2 coats of thinned down shellac). You may want to do a small sample carving with similar surface just to see what the results will be with the shoe polish. It'seems just better to be safe if you have never used that as a finish before.

Here's the finished carving. 2 coats of shellac and brown shoe polish applied with a stiff brush.
