Hi! New to the forum. Name's Saul.
I'm about to start carving a gift for a cousin. It'll just be his name, in Hebrew, carved in positive space. On this Walnut cutoff.
Some of these I get from the lumber yard, and can have some extra figure on them. Some boards, even in the regular pile have at the ends too. But this one is just straighter grain to make it easier. I already routed a bead on the edge of the board.

Hi Saul,
Welcome to the forum! Looks like some nice wood and some interesting notes on the wood (if you click on the photo, it will enlarge). I wonder what they were working on?
Raised letters are a lot more work than incised letters, because all the background will need to be lowered. But what's wrong with a little work, eh? Builds character.
Have fun and please share when you have finished.

Hey Mary, how's it hangin'!
This is gonna be posted soon.
The notes on this piece of scrap are my own. Just for a podium. I took the piece and routed a bead on it, to prepare for the carved sign.
