Hi Mary
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge, watching these videos I notice your sensitivity towards your workpieces.

Gwyn
If you were doing flutes, say, 30mm (or 40mm) wide, what size gouge would you recommend? Could it be done with a much smaller gouge, or would it be better to, as in the video, come close to, but not the same as, the desired width? The flutes would be about 20 inches long. Thanks.
Hi Tim,
Using a smaller gouge will probably cause more issues, such as many more tool facets, and just get fussy. I would still try and find a large enough gouge where it could shape half of the flute. Depending on what kind of depth and curvature of the flute you are talking about, a guess would be a #7, 14mm or 18mm. If this gouge is too large and awkward, then try a size smaller until it feels comfortable and controllable.
Mary, when you turned the piece over and were having trouble getting it to stick to the tape, maybe try using two or three strips of tape stuck on top of each other. Then stick the piece to this. The extra sponginess should give better adhesion.
Hi Seamus,
Thanks for that suggestion. I think my problem with this one was I was simply being too frugal with the tape and didn't put enough down to cover the surface. I keep learning!
Beautiful. When I saw this project in the news letter. I said to myself...Perfect. I finally know what I giving my 80 yo mother for Christmas this year.
