• From Bob Easton on Carving the Ball & Claw Foot - Episode 1

Dave's question is one I had a while back. Google gave me lots of answers when I searched "ball and claw foot." The images results are especially good at showing the variations, and each image leads to a page with more information, sometimes just marketing info, other times good information about style.

I also have an article I wrote for Society of American Period furniture Makers that shows 3 basic shapes - Philadelphia, Boston, and Newport. Contact me directly and I can e-mail the images of these styles.

    Hi Dave,
I know Al Breed is very knowledgable about the various styles and he has castings of the Newport style available. He's also a great carver and woodworker.

  • From Henry on Carving a Dragon & Acanthus Leaf Design - Episode 1

I really enjoyed this 9 episode series! I learned so many small things that I never knew and hope to learn so much more in these videos. I was humored to see that Mary used the same fingerless gloves that I use. I originally got my Weider fingerless gloves at Walmart and used them for my wheelchair before I got my electric mobility scooter. Now they are my carving gloves for general carving unless I am holding the piece in my hand and then I use my Kevlar carving gloves.

  • From David Taylor on Carving a Dragon & Acanthus Leaf Design - Episode 1

Still hanging on! Actually I was very glad to see these come out as I am recovering from surgery, and this gave me something to watch 🙂

I really like how, in Chapter 9 you 'fixed' that long skinny leaf like thing by connecting it to the larger leaf next to it, very well done, and lesson learned, that nothing is carved in stone until you decide that it is so.

Looking forward to the rest of it!
