• From Rob Boursaw on All About Gouges - Beginner Lesson #3

Do all tool makers number thier gouges the same?
So, would a pfeil #3 6mm be the same as Stubai?
    Thanks

Generally the numbers are similar if the brand is European. The only difference is the v-chisel is sometimes numbered as a #41 or #12 (60 degree angle). Occasionally a #2 is a skew, and sometimes it is a slightly curved gouge. Other than that, the numbers and shapes are pretty similar between companies.

  • From Steve Cofield on What videos would you like to see?

    Hi Mary
I would like to learn how to carve acanthus leaf designs in the scroll form. I want to try and carve cabinet door fronts with a fancy scrolling pattern.
    Thank you
    Steve

    Hi Mary
Really nice to see a video on the design aspect. This has helped me understand how the leaves flow which will assist me with carving a leaf. I'm looking forward to adding my own design to your templates and "making it my own." Being a rookie at carving, the more I learn on design, the better I will carve (thats my thinking anyhow). I am learning so much from this online class! Thank you for guiding me through this process I love so much!!!

  • From Mary May on Starting to Carve

I have finally made a video on techniques of holding down wood securely, safely and without damaging the carvings. I hope to have this video on this up within the week.

    Thanks for your patience!
