I recently received a photo of the finished carving of the dragon and acanthus leaf that I carved several months ago. My client, Smokey (ironic for wanting a dragon carved?) wanted to do the finishing and he made a beautiful frame of walnut with bloodwood inlay. The backing for the carving is also bloodwood. He mentioned he got the idea from a suggestion Bob Easton made on the “dragon carving” blog post. Didn’t he do a wonderful job in bringing it all together?
I put the first 2 chapters of video up on my online school site, and there are probably going to be a total of 15 to 20 different chapters to show how to complete the project. So this will be an ongoing process – sort of like a TV series. The plot is not all that exciting, and somewhat predictable. I am not going to edit it much – I will be adding the tools I use, as I do in all the videos, and will probably edit out some where my hand is blocking out any way of seeing what I am doing (very frustrating to watch as you try to move your head around the TV to see what is behind my hands).
As I was editing, I was so absorbed in the process that I actually tried to blow wood shavings off the computer screen… I think it is time to get some rest.
Superb! The carving itself is gorgeous and Smokey did a fantastic job framing it!!!
The walnut contrasted with bloodwood is very much like classic Chinese black on red presentations. It looks fabulous! THANKS for showing us the completed result.
