Had a great weekend at Roy Underhill’s School in Pittsboro, NC. Everyone successfully completed a really short leg with a ball and claw foot.
The longer I do this teaching and travelling thing, the more I enjoy it. I love to see the tentative cuts that the students are making on the first day, and then get towards the end of the class, and I can see how the confidence grows. I hope the students can recognize the change over only 2 days. That is really the only way to gain that confidence in carving – take the time to get comfortable with it. The more you carve, the more it just naturally evolves with familiarity.
Looks like everyone had a great time, learning from a great teacher. Roy’s a tremendous host.
Thanks. When I teach, I often learn more than the students! And yes, Roy is great host – he knows how to create a wonderful learning environment.
