Stan Beckworth came in from Texas for the past 3 days to learn more about the specific techniques of carving. He has quite a lot of experience with carving, but wants to be able to teach carving at the school where he teaches in Waco, TX – the Heritage School of Woodworking (www.homesteadheritage–woodworking.com/). They specialize in building furniture the traditional old-fashioned way – with hand tools. They also have a “craft village” which focuses on traditional crafts like soap making, woodworking, weaving, farming, etc. and has a craft fair every year where thousands of people come to watch them demonstrate their crafts.
We packed a lot in 3 days – from the basics of carving the donut (working with the grain) and the camellia flower and even ventured onto a much more advanced project – carving the McIntire Fruit Basket. He did a great job, and I’m confident he will be able to get his students headed in the right direction with carving.
Stan is a very gifted artisan and wonderful teacher. I was fortunate to be asked to attend a practice class session for his proposed class. Now I”m hooked on carving and I subscribed to your online class to continue my journey.
…and so it begins.
