• From David Holmes on Carving a Small Sunburst

I'd be interested in knowing the thickness you recommend for this project. I see width and height but not thickness.

    Thanks.

The depth of the carving can be 1/8" to 3/16" deep at the outside edges. Be careful not to make these rays too deep, or the sharp corners will become fragile.

Where do I purchase wood like butternut for carving a pineapple? What dimensions do I look for?

      Hi Wayne,
My supplier in Wisconsin, Wilcox Wood (http://wilcoxcarvingwood.com/) sells butternut and is currently in Florida for the winter, but should be back early March. He sells beautiful basswood and butternut. The thickness can be anywhere from 3/4" to 1-1/4" and use the same technique shown in the lesson. The dimensions for each lesson are listed several places. They are listed on the page with the introduction video, at the beginning of the Episode 1 video, and they are also listed on the template that you can print out.

      Hi Peter,
Try right clicking on the photo and it should give the option of saving the image to your computer. For some reason (and this was added quite a few years ago) this is showing up differently than other files. Will look into this further, but for now, the right click method should word.
