• From Ken Hamilton on Carving a Camellia Flower - Beginner Lesson #8 - Episode 2

I just finished watching all the beginning videos, I really like them, and Ms. Mary I can tell you're a nice woman and a really good teacher.. I think I'm going to try this out and see if I can be gentle enough to accomplish this. :-). Thank You for the free videos and I'll probably be a paying member before long. Again thank you Ms. Mary

Can I use a 6mm V chisel instead of 3mm? Also, do you think mahogany is a good choice for this project? Thanks~

Do people typically sand their turnings before carving?

      Hi Richard,
It may make it easier to lay out the lines on the surface of the turning, but be careful not to use sandpaper that leaves grit in the wood. Your tools will be much happier!

  • From María Massone on Sharpening a Curved Gouge - Beginner Lesson #4

Hi Mary I am from Argentina. Your videos are very instructing. n fact they are GREAT!!!I want to know if one can use the final leather strope alone without putting anything to it. Here the silicon is not found and they suggest the green paste which I do not want to use as it is very toxic. Or put linen oil to the leather? Thanks a lot.

Thank you Maria! Any kind of honing or buffing paste will work (even toothpaste 🙂 I had not heard about any toxicity of the green paste, and I'm not sure if the green paste in Argentina is the same as what we have in the US. Plain leather will work also, but will probably need to strop it a bit more.
