I think this is a much better way to chip carve for me. Always got frustrated with the chip carving knifetrying to get the cuts even. Great episode once again!
Great video as always. since i've seen your videos on sharpening tools my confidence has risen so much. You are truly an inspiration because until 4 weeks ago i never carved anything and now i've done 10 amazing pieces counting my first abomination. lol at first i would hold down a piece with 1 hand anr try to carve using the other hand, and then I saw the light, your table with all those slots for clamping, when I saw 1 of your videos. I ran out to the hardware and bought me some G clamps and wala I had a carving table 'stool' that can clamp my pieces securely allowing me to carve Safely and much better using my6 2 hands for maximum control.
I like the idea of a carving table stool. My workbench is out in a separate building, and I know that I will be wanting to carve in the house - I'll be doing small projects. My hobby room (about 1/3 of the house I designed) is getting crowded with other hobbies (at least 12 just in that room). Kevin, can you describe what your stool looks like? Thanks - that is the piece that I am missing.
I found your presentation with Dan very informative. I love the look and feel of a wax finish. I like to make my own custom colors for my projects but felt confined by the limited selection of wax(shoe polish) colors. I did some exploring and discovered that Tarrago shoe polish comes in 90 different colors. I ordered a variety of colors and experimented with mixing them to make custom colors. It worked great and I thought some of your followers might benefit from this information.
