• From Alexandros Stefanidis on Workshop Tour - Beginner Lesson #16

Hi Mary. This is my second comment I think...
It's nice to have someone showing their workshop and teaching woodcarving in general. It is a bit of shame that it is difficult to find a teacher here in Peristeri, Athens, Greece even though we had tradition in woodcarving. I liked the icon of Theotokos with Christ

Hi Alexandros. I'm sorry to hear you can't find teachers in your area. I know that there are carving studios in Athens, but I don't know if they teach. My guess is there are still apprentice programs in Greece. If you find a woodcarving company, ask them how they find woodcarvers. You would probably have to start from the very basics as a traditional apprentice. Good luck!

Thank you for this! I am trying my first scroll for the first dulcimer I am making. I am doing it in walnut so it is not quite as pretty (not too smooth, so far. I'll probably have to do some sanding.) I am using this as a guide, and it is working out well. I discovered that I have to stop and strop frequently. Thanks! So much fun!

  • From Randy Wright on Carving a Donut - Beginner Lesson #6

    Hi Mary,

I am a 61 year old who has been off and on with relief carving for about two years. I have a good supply of Swiss Made tools and I am just trying to get better at this hobby. I noticed you are from Charleston....my wife and I vacation there every year and have for the past 10 years. We stay at Folly Beach at The Turn of River condos. I have signed up for the 7 day trial to your page. I hope I like what I see and join as a monthly member soon. Your videos are very good.

It goes without saying that your skill and commentary are excellent! The camera angles and editing make me feel as if I'm in your shop with you! Even if I were, I'm sure the view would not be better. Thanks.
