I am hoping some fellow woodcarvers here can advise....
In my furniture making projects I use utile as a mahogany substitute and would like to now attempt carving the ball and claw foot and also the gadroon on a side table I'm making.
Is it a reasonable timber ( if not as easy as genuine mahogany to carve ) with the the Ball and claw and gadroon ?
I have also used Sapele in my projects and I understand that is NOT a good choice for carving but in my work I've noticed the Utile is softer to work and easier on my edge tools....
Thanks !
