Acanthus Swirls...

This carving was one of the first acanthus carvings I saw almost 2 years ago when I started carving. I saved a picture of it on my phone and put it away as something I would like to do one day. I guess I felt it was time to try it, and am working through the chaos right now!

That's a lovely carving! Looks like you are on the right track. I love that Scandinavian style of curling acanthus leaves. Look forward to seeing your progress!

I am amazed you do this kind of work after two years of carving! Either Mary is a great teacher or you have a gift, or both of you do. It's inspiring anyway.  - BP

Thank you Mary and Bill!

Bill, I have poured my heart into carving the last couple years. I’ve made it a point to carve almost every day, even if it’s for a short time. I’ve made a lot of firewood if you know what I mean! I still struggle with the small things on many carvings, and I’m glad people like Mary put their time into passing along such a great skill to others on the interwebs. I wish I lived closer to Charleston so I could pester her in her workshop for more help!

Here is where I’m at on this work. I’ve finished all of the roughing out and am moving on to all of the details. This is where I spend most of my time uttering many offending words!

Calling it finished for this. I spent the last week shaving off tiny bits here and there. Afraid I could keep doing that if I don’t just stop!

Very nicely done! When you can follow the leaves all the way through continuously, you've caught the "acanthus bug"! Congratulations!

Thank you Mary! That’s a bug I’m more than happy to catch...

It's beautiful, Bravo! well made.
