Hey fellow carvers!
Just did this as a gift for my sister! It's her name in Hebrew.
It's 1/2", very dark Walnut. Just use scrap for carvings. Took a little too long to do, when I'm not in practice.
Do people call carving letters in negative space "Classical" style?

What a beautiful result Saul! Very nice and clean.
This style of lettercarving is called "incised," as opposed to "raised."

Nicely done, Saul. I'm sure your sister will be very happy with this.
The incised lettering that you did is much easier and takes less time than the raised lettering. The raised lettering you will need to lower all the background around the letters, leaving the letters higher (if you're not a "purist" carver, routers help a great deal for this).
